I am sure most of you have heard of shilajit before, but I want to share with you all why it's a great addition in your routine and one of my favorite brands for this specific supplement.
So what is shilajit and why is EVERYONE talking about it?
Shilajit has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine, is enriched with fulvic acid and has 84 vital minerals with multiple health benefits.
This compound is derived from decomposition of plant matter over centuries and is found in the rocky terrain of the Himalayan Mountains. I'm going to discuss some health benefits of shilajit, how to take it, and the one brand I personally use daily.
What are the health benefits of shilajit?
Can help with low testosterone levels
One study showed that middle-aged men who took 250 mg of shilajit had higher testosterone levels than placebo
May help with iron deficiency anemia
Other research on animals showed an increased level of hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell levels with Shilajit use.
Supports male infertility
One study showed an increase in total sperm count in infertile men who consumed Shilajit twice daily for 90 days
Slows aging process
Due to the high fulvic acid content in Shilajit, it can help protect free radical damage, produces antioxidants, and slows aging process
Boosts Immunity
Research shows Shilajit modulates the immune response & therefore supports the body's immune function
Regulates blood sugar levels
Shilajit can improve insulin sensitivity and therefore regulate blood sugar levels. One study done on diabetic rats found that it lowered blood glucose levels.
Aids in Mineral Absorption
Most people lack minerals and nutrients from their diet. Shilajit is an amazing source of trace minerals. Due to the fulvic acid in its components, it helps boost mineral absorption of the trace minerals.
As someone who is all about optimizing gut health, Shilajit can actually help anyone who might want to support their gut microbiome. It can bind to toxins in the GI tract to help them get eliminated via your bowel movements. Remember that a healthy digestive system is important for skin health, immunity, sleep, and so much more!
Let's talk about using Shilajit for those who may be new to consuming it! Many don't know how to incorporate shilajit into their diet, but it is much easier than you think! It's also extremely versatile so you can take it in any way you choose!
The traditional way to ingest Shilajit is by dissolving 300-500 mg in a glass of warm water or milk, and drinking it twice daily. You could even use Shilajit in your cooking by adding it to soups, broths, or even stews. If you choose to cook with it, you would likely want to add it at the end so you don't overheat it and lose any nutrients. Another way that I like to add Shilajit is in smoothies and shakes! So many clients love making morning smoothies or protein shakes, and it is such an easy addition into your routine!
Lastly, I want to talk about how not all Shilajit is created equal. It's extremely important to use a quality brand and my absolute favorite Shilajit is from NutroTonic.
The reason I love this brand is because it's properly extracted and prepared in ways that are similar to traditional methods. What I love about NutroTronic is that they conduct extensive purification processes that ensure all of the raw Shilajit's nutrients are preserved and pure. It’s even sun-dried over 60 days and you can truly taste the quality of it.
NutroTonic's Shilajit is actually one of the highest quality and rarest Shilajit out there since it's the unique red variant. This specific form has increased bioavailability and mineral content compared to others out there.
It is extremely important to invest in quality supplements to get the optimal health benefits. This is one brand that has been extremely transparent in terms of sourcing, and one that I personally enjoyed using daily in my routine!
As always, please consult your primary care doctor, physician, or other professional before trying a new supplement.
Let me know if you love Shilajit and have also seen some of these health benefits in the comments below! I would love to hear if you also try NutroTonic and love it as much as I do!
